About this deal

From the revelation at the start through unexpected twists and turns to the climatic ending - I was hooked all the way through! Remember this was what I thought about the book personally and I suggest that you give it a go for yourself. It’s such an extreme scenario, especially after what was a formative first queer experience, that sets up his character arc for the rest of the book. This is also a multi-POV story, so we do get to explore a lot of characters (including a few supporting characters) and their inner most thoughts in depth which really helped me in understanding their motivations. It has an overall interesting premise, but the more I find the story delving into DEMA/superpowers, the further my interest strayed from the story.

My rate is 3,5/5 stars Thank you 'Readers First' for providing me with a copy of the book and I wish the new young author success with the next books. I am anticipating the opportunity to revisit this book upon its release and intend to acquire both a physical copy and an audible version to fully immerse myself in the story. I just reviewed OVEREMOTIONAL (Free Sampler) by David Fenne. David has such an authentic voice, and we are thrilled to be the team that gets to share his début with the world. Initially, I wasn't too sure whether this book was too 'young' for me, but one of the opening lines being " And then his head exploded" immediately convinced me otherwise.

The reverse emotional power Steven has is something I've not come across before, making this novel all the more exciting and original. July 2023’s set of recommendations for book clubs features eight titles that explore compelling themes of loyalty, belonging, heritage, resilience and sharing – through push and pull interaction, thought-provoking illustrations, magical realism and laugh-out-loud humour. the swearing (especially as it's being marketed as YA) is consistent and the use of "prick" "tits" and other words like that should probably be monitored. Our guide on how to run a school book club, which covers both primary school book clubs and secondary school book clubs. So just, fair warning to all those out there interested in this book- deffo check out other reviews for context. A little too lightweight in parts and suffering from some problems in setting up a new series, with some characters (such as Marcus) feeling a bit sketched thin as a result, Overemotional is still an enjoyable, breezy and joyously queer adventure into YA urban fantasy, anchored by a core cast of likeable leads and palatable plot. Writing comedy is notoriously difficult, but the voices were full of humour, was it difficult to balance jokes with tension? This cheat sheet not only added an extra layer of depth to the story but also serves as a helpful guide for readers to understand the intricate connection between Steven's emotions and the extraordinary superpowers that manifest as a result. Steven flees to the miserable town of Grunsby-on-Sea, determined not to hurt anyone else with his “Emomancy”.
