About this deal

You can only do three things with the long press, double press, and triple press functions and they are mirrored in both earbuds. This means that you cannot assign individual functions to individual earbuds, thereby limiting the onboard controls. Another factor that some might take issue with is the onboard controls. Edifier's W240TN wireless earbuds forgo the more popular touch panels for physical buttons. The buttons themselves function perfectly fine but it's what you can — or in this case, cannot— do with them that is irksome.

When listening, the setting for highest noise reduction gives the best bass and full range response. The noise reduction setting actually affects the sound equalization. Not sure why they did this.

Battery Life

The Edifier W240TN are a fine-looking and sounding pair of wireless earbuds designed to compete with some of the category’s top performers. Detailed sonics combined with strong noise cancellation, connectivity, and craftsmanship make them well worth their asking price. Certain areas could be improved such as call quality, digital assistance, and wind resistance. Then again, compromises are expected for wireless earbuds this affordable, and the overall performance makes up for any shortcomings. Meanwhile, the bass from the drum hits is forceful, giving those low frequencies a nice feeling of solidness and impact. And there’s José James’ soulful vocals which the Edifier affords a smooth character to them. Let's talk about the sound produced by the Edifier W240TN TWS earbuds. You should know that I lean towards the bassy spectrum of audio. That being said, the W240TN wireless earbuds produce crispy, detailed sound without overdoing the bass or drowning out the high notes. Personally, I do like heavily punchy sound, so I ended up adjusting the audio with the in-app EQ. Most other users are likely to be incredibly happy with the tune that the W240TN earbuds play. The midrange doesn’t accomplish much aside from some surprisingly clear vocals. I was worried that the W240TN could delve too far into dullness, but that never happened throughout my testing. I think there are some good details here that deliver some surprising bite, especially with crunchy distorted guitars, and of course crisper vocals. Vocals take an immediate dominance in the sound signature, and the focus is warranted, especially with how cleanly they come through. It is definitely the most realistic timbre in this frequency response. Highs

With the upper-midrange extension to vocals, comes a nice finishing touch in the treble range. The crisp elements of the W240TN are helped through EQ, but these earbuds also have natural details in their highs. There’s a great sizzle to vocals and instruments that adds color and grace to the sound signature. It adds height and never over-extends into brightness or harshness. Everything is played safe while still using treble details to add texture to the timbre. SummaryYou also have the bonus of fast charging 10 minutes of charge will provide you with 2 hours of battery life which will get you out of trouble if that were to happen. Verdict Playtime (hours): ANC On: 7h (earbuds)+14h (charging case); ANC Off: 8.5h (earbuds)+17h (charging case)

First thing I did was replace the narrow diameter/bore eartips with ones with a 5mm diameter. This brought out a much better and unrestricted sound. I have no idea why they give you tips that restrict the sound. Neither case has wireless charging, both have an IP55 rating, but the Elite 3s come with Google Fast Pair. The real trade-off seems to be the better software behind the Elite 3s, and the better coaxial drivers of the W240TNs. Q: How does the Edifier W240TN compare to the Creative Outlier Pro? I used the W240TN mostly at home. The buzzing noises from my AC condenser and washing machine were silenced, along with most of the family chatter that transpired in different rooms. Even my toddler’s electronic toys weren’t distracting. Not everything was silenced. High-frequency sounds like baby cries and iPhone ringers at max volume were enough to break my concentration during office hours. Edifier W240TN's actual buttons are easy to operate, and don't make your earbuds move too deeply in your ears when you press them. The brand is notoriously hesitant when it comes to putting all the desired controls on your earbuds. This time around, the controls are the same on both earbuds, and as a result, the control scheme is too limited: Two drivers engineered on a parallel axe deliver a natural, detail-rich, and high-definition audio experience. A 10mm-woofer and a 6mm-tweeter built in each earbud ensure a wider frequency response range and create an immersive listening feeling. Enhanced Active Noise Cancellation and Ambient Sound Mode for Your SafetyBattery life is claimed by Edifier to be about seven hours, but performing a battery drain from a Spotify playlist for about two hours resulted in about a 25% drop. I’d say that at 50% volume you could wring about eight hours from the W240TN, which is better than a number of more expensive true wireless.

Even after twisting and turning the buds and trying to find the magical position that would be the most ergonomic for my ears, I was unsuccessful. You may look sleek with the Edifier W240TN buds on, but that style comes at a cost. You'll definitely need to take breaks every one to two hours while wearing these wireless earbuds. Edifier has also provided the user with transparency mode otherwise known as an ambient mode which provides you with a hiss-free implementation with no lag and built-in mics that let me hear a conversation even when am pretending not to listen to that conversation in the office. The Edifier App The buds and the charging case are built using premium plastic material and provide that durable feel they don’t feel like they will break after a few uses. The buds do not protrude too much out of your ears and are lightweight at only 5.6g meaning after a long period of time you will forget they are even in your ears. Hit ‘Customized’ and that opens a complex looking 4-band EQ where you can alter the Gain, frequency bandwidth and Q Factor. The Q Factor “refers to the size of the centre frequency relative to the bandwidth”. The larger the value, the narrower the bandwidth. I must admit that despite this concept being around for ages I struggle to wrap my head around it – it’s a bit like what Final has done with its app for the ZE3000. The best advice is to play around to see what effect it has. In addition to the audio quality and the ANC, you can also use these buds to take calls due to the built-in mics in both earbuds and the quality is fine I found I could be heard and could hear who is speaking clearly. If the environment is nice and quiet but as we know calls can happen at any time of the day. When you increase the outside noise the call quality can be affected, and more outdoor noise comes in than you might want. It’s a shame but these are budget-friendly in-ear headphones so it’s not a massive surprise. Battery LifeYou can set a time to switch off automatically before going to bed to avoid the over-time sound, or set a time to switch off to avoid excessive use to protect the hearing. Two brand-new functions for options One-tap Google Fast Pair and multipoint technology (pair to two devices simultaneously) didn’t make the cut. Edifier W240TN review: Verdict The Edifier W240TN supports Edifier’s Connect app, which offers levels of customization from a Game mode that reduces audio latency to swapping between noise-cancelling modes and ‘sound effects’ (Classic, Dynamic, Customised). Could Edifier improve yes, the fact you don’t have multi-point pairing would have been nice to have added. Call quality is also an area that really needs improvement, especially in busy environments. Apart from that if you do not want to splash the bank or can’t and want a pair of buds that does most things well these are a very good option to consider. Product Rating:
