About this deal

In this, the first of my two part review, I build the set and give my verdict. Tomorrow I will discuss motorising it with both Powered Up and Power Functions. Thanks. It has PU and PF. I have a PU hub connected to a PF XL motor through a homemade adapter cable. I didn't want to buy a PU motor since I'm already heavily invested in PF motors. I like using PU bluetooth when running at train shows. At home PF infrared works fine bouncing off the walls in my room.

Here comes the Emerald Night! Build this incredible classic-styled train with loads of amazing details, from the steam locomotive with furnace to the opening tender and dining car with removable roof, opening doors and detailed interior. Measures 27.2" (68cm) long! Includes three minifigures, elements in rare colors and all-new large train wheels with piston motion! Add LEGO® Power Functions to motorize. Would dark green have been better? Perhaps, but then 10194 Emerald Night was dark green so using it again was unlikely. The LEGO Trains Book. Authored by Holger Matthes. Published by No Starch Press, 2017. ISBN 978-1-59327-819-9. Prefacing by saying I've never had a Lego train before; so I know very little about this area of Lego. I would like a steam engine with coaches; and as far as I know, Emerald Night is the only official Lego set like that. I have seen tons of amazing steam engine mocs, but haven't found any with free instructions that are similar to the Emerald Night. So EN it is, then. Since it's my first train, I should start smaller anyway. LEGO Train Projects. Authored by Charles Pritchett. Published by No Starch Press, 2020. ISBN 978-1-71850-048-8. It doesn't appeal to me as I'm only a Lego train person not an expert but I see the appeal to some people.Lego Specifications". Orionrobots.co.uk. 26 February 2011. Archived from the original on 23 August 2011 . Retrieved 30 August 2022. The set, the latest in LEGO's new 'Adults Welcome' 18+ series, comes in a box that certainly has a very mature feel to it, almost to the point of looking drab. I'm not sure that visitors to a LEGO store who are not specifically looking for it would be attracted to it, to be honest. K10194 Emerald Night Collection was introduced in LEGO shop@home online to include the 10194 train set with a full set of accessories to motorize the train. But I wish they'd so something similar - an 'mini' Emerald Night. Call it the Emerald Dawn. Perhaps a 1-2-1 version, no coal tender. (Buy 2 to get enough parts for an EN). Carriages different, but matching. The two biggest contributers to the discolouring of the plastic of Lego toys are long term exposure to sunlight and cigarette smoke. Try to minimise these when storing your Playmobil.

The 37.5mm length is not derived by a certain scale ratio. While HO scale is a 1:87 scale (3.5mm to 1foot), resulting in a 16.5mm ( 0.65in) gauge from real life prototype 1,435mm ( 4ft 8 + 1⁄ 2in) standard gauge. Conversely, modeling standard gauge into Lego trains would require a scaling of (37.5:1435=) circa 1:38. With this scale, a minifigure (height 4 centimetres (1.6in)) in real life size would be 1.52 metres (5ft 0in). Designer Pierre Normandin has done a commendable job of producing something that not only looks good, but which can also be used as a regular LEGO train, on LEGO's ridiculously tight curves and points, should you wish. Personally I think it looks a bit daft when traversing them, but it's good that it's possible. Also, why do people always ignore the fact that the Emerald Night was released at a time when many felt the direct aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007/2008 and/or were afraid to lose their jobs? I was at Uni at the time and working 30 hours/week at Burger King. For a whopping 5.60€/hour after the deduction of health care fees and stuff like that. New hires would have gotten even less than that, but we didn't hire anyway. We let people go. Boy, did our revenue go down in 2008/2009! I wanted an Emerald Night badly (well, three, actually) but figured it was smarter to put the money in my savings account, instead.

There sure are plenty of iconic US trains but I would love to know whether there are any Chinese trains that could even remotely be called iconic. Hell, I am quite the train guy tbh, but all that comes to mind when I think of Chinese trains is either licenced versions of other countries' locos or run-of-the-mill utilitarian workhorses with no sort of rememberability whatsoever. Ah, for the EN you need either the XL Motor (8882) or the L-Motor (88003), since it uses gearing to power the drivers directly. I wouldn't do that if I were you. Since we aren't privy to Lego's plans, who is to say this train stays available for 3 to 4 years before retiring and a new train is released? Similarly, this could become the new "Technic Licensed Supercar" thing and a new train could be released every other year, meaning this one would be gone after 2 years and indeed go up in value. It's a total toss-up, not worth buying more than 2 in the hopes of scoring a big payday. Unless you know you live around a lot of Lego newbies or just plain saps who will pay whatever you say its worth, Lego investment is a fool's game unless you just happen to have tons of capital already to throw at it. I have a Lego Creator 3in1 set, where can I find the instructions for the alternative models? Verified

Can anyone who is running a Large motor (PF or PU) with an Emerald Night comment on whether you made any gear changes? I'm with Huw on this one. I have tons of reddish brown as well as dark brown pieces and never had any problems. While I have zero desire to see the excellent independent parts artisans go out of business, Lego needs to design some real driving rods before any future 'premium' steam offering like the Emerald Night. The continued reliance on bulky, ill-shaped Technic rods is an embarrassment. It ruins pretty much every steam loco they release. Lots of authentic touches including elements in rare colors and all-new large train wheels with piston motion!Richard Stollery (1 October 2007). "Lego 9V Train Communication". Lego Group . Retrieved 13 January 2009. Much has been said about the brown livery and whether it's a bit drab. I thought it might have been, too, but now having built and displayed it, I think it looks excellent: subdued and sophisticated. Actually the official name of the colour was "ozeanblau" (plus accents in "creme/Elfenbein" which was sort of a mixture between tan and light yellow), a colour not found in the LEGO range of colours. The next best thing would be dark blue. Where have you googled to have found that in Switzerland we have had this model in dark blue and dark red? There's a simple solution to that. Don't submit stuff that's bound to get rejected for stepping on the toes of other themes.
