The Xero Shoes Genesis Sandals is as minimalist as it goes. All you have are the nylon laces and the sole. Because of its huarache design, it works great as footwear for summer outfits – shorts, dresses, and so on.To get the perfect fit, loosen the heel strap, slide your foot in, position your foot and now, adjust the laces, being very careful and not using force, you do this by grabbing the lace and pulling in a sideways direction from the hole. Don't pull upwards as you can damage the sandal. Adjust the side of lace that has a knot (left for the right shoe and right for the left shoe) so that the knot is sort of in the centre of your foot, after that's done, adjust the lace that goes to the toepost so that it's snuggly tight. Then finally, adjust the heel strap while the cup is in the right position on the heel. Now you're done and have the perfect fit. I have fairly wide feet for their length and have had issues with many shoe brands in the past. My foot pad fits on these, and I can spread my toes to full wingspan. They have actually become my daily wear shoes, and will be so for some time. In fact, I am flying with them in 2 days and they will be my primary shoe. The heel cups are no more and the laces a bit more elastic. The toe posts are easy on toes and unless you are in for a more than 3 hour run in wet conditions, you don’t need much extra care. How do you feel them?
Final call
These lovelies are highly adjustable and true to size. The heel adjustments took me a bit to figure out, and that was mostly user error. I still need to trim the excess lace off, but at first it all felt kinda bulky. It no longer does. Granted, that may also have to do with the size of my foot. I'm a women's size 7, so the same hardware on my little hooves looks and feels more bulky than, say, if it were on my husband's size 13's. They are zero drop and have zero cushioning. You learn to use your God-given cushioned feet. So you won’t be able to pound the pavement unless you are willing to say ‘ouch’ every step. Watchthe video below to see how to use the template.
