In this blog, we are going to discuss the differences between two types of leather paint: Acrylic and Polyurethane. What is acrylic leather paint? Be sure to apply it with a clean paint brush in even, thin coats. Do not glob your paint on. It won’t dry evenly and will definitely chip down the road. After each layer of paint is applied, it should be left alone to dry. This takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes. The last, topmost paint layer applied should be left to dry for at least twenty-four hours for best results. This is also the case if you want to apply a finisher, in which case it is also best to wait at least 24 hours after application. How long does leather paint last? If you buy some kind of leather object—anything from shoes, to clothing, to furniture, to car seats—you can paint it. So if you have a leather couch that’s scuffed or stained—or if you’re just tired of the color—you can repaint it. You can paint these items a solid color or add a fancy design—anything you can imagine you can do. Second, you could try a little bit more manual process and use sandpaper on your leather to rough up the finish.

A. Yes, as shown in our video painting leather shoes, you can also use it as a leather spray paint by using our airbrush. To use it as a leather spray paint, you may need to add up to 10% water to thin the paint down. Give your dyed leather a large window of time to dry, and you should have no issues with the paint taking to the surface. If you want to keep paint off a certain part of whatever you’re painting, you can use masking tape to protect that part. If you’re painting shoes, for example, and don’t want to paint the soles, you can place tape over the sole where it meets the upper. Shoe Cream or Polish (if you’re painting shoes)

If you’ve used cement or glue on leather, you are likely already familiar with the idea of roughing your leather. It is the same idea here, that a rougher surface will give the product something to cling to as opposed to glossing over a totally smooth surface. A fine grit should be more than enough, with some gentle strokes. You want to rough the surface, but you don’t want to make it shaggy. That won’t help the look of your paint either. Remove anything that comes off of your leather piece if don’t want to paint it. For example, if your leather couch has legs that you can remove, take them off before you begin. If you’re painting shoes that have laces or anything else that’s not permanently attached, remove them! (You can paint laces, too, if you want, but not while they’re in the shoes.) 2. Clean Your Object, if it Has Visible Dirt Allow for plenty of drying time between layers before applying additional coats of paint. Rushing can leave streaks or patches of uneven color. Even though it may feel dry, the paint under the top layer may still be setting up. A. No, our Leather Paint has been specifically designed for painting design work on leather. You will not be able to achieve the results you want restoring leather with this product. In the photo above, you can see it has stripped away the Vegas metallic finish, caused some color change in the oil tanned, and made the patent foggy if not removed entirely. It can be applied to leather with a paint brush or sponge, or sprayed onto leather as a leather spray paint.
