One of the many powers of Zora is manipulating iron. She uses it to create cages to trap people, before crushing them inside. I would not go so far as to say that Choujin X is a carbon copy of Tokyo Ghoul. Most of the abovementioned tropes are common in many mainstream stories, and perhaps Ishida finds these particular ones interesting. I can understand the appeal of stories that drag seemingly ordinary and innocent personalities through dark and morbid situations, especially if that character comes off as relatable. Our protagonist Tokio feels like someone with severe impostor syndrome. He looks down on himself so much that he determines his self-worth via the people that he associates with rather than from himself, which is what earned him the label of a vulture. The book does an excellent job of establishing that as both a symbol of power and a negative character trait that has the potential to be overcome. It's not easy to tell in which direction this will go but so far we have a pretty basic shounen-esque premise about two friends, one being very popular while the other one is the quiet type. truly hit his stride. The characters that matter are finding a deeper entrenchment into their identities, the world of what Choujins are seems to be expanding into a more tangible manner, and the art in the most recent chapters have been spectacular. The pharmacist always wears a Noh Mask to hide his monstruous face, that looks patched together with Too Many Eyes.

As of now, I am still unsure if Choujin X will surpass Tokyo Ghoul, but I do think that it has certainly stepped out of the shadow of Ishida's previous work at this point. If it continues in this direction I truly think that Choujin X has the possibility to become Ishida's peak. The way Choujins are more free as a concept rather than Ghouls (i.e. not simply based off RC cells and organs, but rather how the character of who someone is impacts their Choujin form. I see this similar to cursed energy from JJK.) Greed: Due to his nature as a Nue Chimera who can collect other Choujin's powers, the pharmacist always wants powers. He needs to remind himself to not overindulge in it. Super Smoke: Chandra, Ely and Zora can create super-heated smoke, used either to burn people, fly or hide in it.

While on the surface he's someone who has life entirely figured out and excels in everything he puts his mind to, deep down he has a massive inferiority complex and a crippling fear of screwing up. All I can say about the characters is that they just seem like kids or teens (not that I had a problem with it), but it just seems a bit odd that the kid just beat up a bunch of thugs. The characters don't have the same spark that the characters in Tokyo Ghoul had.Not the most redeeming quality of this manga. The character tropes themselves are - cliche. But that doesn't really take away from them. There is some ingenuity to their appeal but maybe they are meant to be late bloomers. Keep in mind that doesn't apply to all characters. That said the protagonist himself is nothing more of a recycled product as of the 15th chapter. He does have some genuinely intriguing motives and perhaps will develop into an amazing character at some point.
