About this deal

Rosie being a firefighter is a fairly crucial part of the plot. One blustery day, her hat gets blown away from her. She doesn't manage to find it that day and her hat, presumed lost for good, ends up being used as all kinds of things** as it floats around, waiting for her to grow up, become a firefighter, and be called to rescue a cat who is caught up the tree where it eventually lands. Its journey has come full circle and, in a sense, so has Rosie's as she has gone from being that little girl in a little red coat to, if I remember correctly, getting married and having a child of her own.*** I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married.

Whilst the younger children carry out self-initiated activities, you can work with the older children (perhaps ages 5-7 years) and teach a science topic from their curriculum. This could include a practical investigation to develop children’s science knowledge as well as their enquiry skills. You might find that some of the younger children want to join in, and why not if they are able to?! This book is about a little girl called Rosie who loses her hat due to strong winds. As a result the hat experiences quite an adventure as time passes. The hat meets a dog who takes it through water, where a fisherman catches it he isn't too amused as i am sure he would much prefer to catch a fish. Little boys use the hat to build sand castles and then later as a Frisbee. One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. It was great to hold the book in my hand without it vanishing in the air the way the songs did. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. Most children love acting and it’s a tremendous way to improve their reading.

Find a Scheme of Work

Plan to provide some science-related activities across the Early Years provision. For example, if the older children are learning about animals in their local environment, you might set up some of these: a sensory table with toy frogs, water, chia seeds; a construction area with twigs, leaves and moss for building a bird’s nest; a malleable area with modelling clay or foil or making model animals – all of these activities can be found on PSTT’s EYFS Science Provision Map Animals in my garden. Rose the Hat is a fictional character created by American writer Stephen King. She is the primary antagonist in his 2013 novel Doctor Sleep and in the 2019 film of the same name. She is portrayed by Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson. [1] Character arc [ edit ] Lachenal, Jessica (9 November 2019). "How Old is Rose the Hat in 'Doctor Sleep'?". Bustle . Retrieved 3 February 2020. Why? Because it is simultaneously really sweet and an antidote to the mountain of girls' books* which seem to have been written by authors under the impression that girls only like pink and glitter and all want to grow up to be princesses. This is not true. There are many ways for children in early years to record their learning. To begin with, look at opportunities where pupils can orally question, clarify, retell or recount their science learning using podcast audio apps or recording audio or video on tablets. These can be saved using QR codes to go on displays in the investigation area so the children can watch and learn from each other, or to share learning across the setting.

Write a description of Rosie. What does she look like? How does she behave? Write another description of the fox. Look at the expressions on the animals’ faces throughout the story. How are they feeling? What might they be thinking?Davids, Brian (8 November 2019). " 'Doctor Sleep': Rebecca Ferguson on After-Hours Fun on 'The Shining' Set". The Hollywood Reporter . Retrieved 2 February 2021. Write a review of the story. What do you like about it? Are there any parts that you don’t like? Watch this video for some ideas: Look at the use of prepositions in the story, e.g. across, around, over. Can you find any more prepositions? Can you write your own sentences which include prepositions? You can also try the prepositions activities here.

Look at the use of colour in the illustrations. What colours can you see? How many different shades of each colour are there? Can you try to make similar colours / shades by mixing paint?
