For Dune they have commissioned Sam Weber, an artist who has previously worked on their editions of Lord of the Flies and Fahrenheit 451. His struggle is at the center of a nexus of powerful people and events, and the repercussions will be felt throughout the Imperium.I confess when I first read this back in 1979 about a year after reading Dune for the first time I didn't particularly like it because it is very different, yes same characters, locations etc. It is a universe of ‘traps within traps’, of human computers, secretive witch-cults and fanatic warriors, all with their own intricate histories and intentions.

One of the most famous novels in the history of science fiction, Dune remains as popular today as it ever was. Others in Leto’s close circle of advisors include the logical, Mr Spock-like ‘Mentat’ and assassin Thufir Hawat, the troubadour swordmaster Gurney Halleck, and the sensitive Dr Wellington Yueh. Weber has made them leap of the page with his incredible photo realistic style, from the corpulent Baron Vladimir Harkonnen to the iconic sandworms, they all ooze gravitas and drama. On the point of death, they are rescued by a band for Fremen, the native people of Arrakis, who control Arrakis’ second great resource: the giant worms that burrow beneath the burning desert sands.The main character is Paul Atreides, son of a murdered Duke, the culmination of a twisted breeding programme by the secretive all female Bene Gesserit, and the fulcrum that changes the destiny of the whole universe.
