About this deal

The doctor is found dead in his office with his head bashed in with an unusual blunt instrument, a 700 year-old religious statue. Explanations of relationships are clear and kept short (no rehashing of everything one might have learned in the first novel) and are just enough to make new readers comfortable. The differences in the Catholic Church in France were also explored (or exploded) as part of the plot. The main character is supposed to be a cultured upper class Frenchman, but all his references are English. Murder in the Rue Dumas’ is the second book from M L Longworth in her Verlaque and Bonnet mystery series.

Pakuję się, gdy rozmawiamy"), bohaterkę, która "sugerowała, by jej rodzice poszukali terapii" (seek therapy) i wiele, wiele innych. It has a j'ai ne sais quoi quality that doesn't quite meet my expectations for a novel set in France. It's so nice once I have all the challenge-reading out of the way--I can give in to impulse reading and just bring home books that look interesting. The Vargas novel was originally written in French and had an excellent translator who instilled a lyrical quality. The new novel opens in the place des Quatre Dauphins with a party in the apartment of the director of the theology department in the university.Interesting if you've visited Cluny) Also some interaction with Italian police comes in at the end, with an excuse to discuss Italian religious art.

Dit is een licht, sfeervol en vermakelijk mysterie met een leuke setting, interessante personages en soms net iets te veel details, maar ook een mooi afgerond onderzoek en nieuwe vraagtekens die je nieuwsgierig maken naar een volgend boek. But I'm so charmed by the culture of this French town and the characters who populate it, that I wouldn't care if it was a mystery, a romance, or a 700-page diary entry on what these people ate and drank all day.Longworth has a good eye and a sharp wit, and this introduction to Verlaque and Bonnet holds promise for a terrific series. Moette has announced his intention to retire and is all set to name his successor as well as name the graduate student recipient of an elite fellowship tied to the Dumas funds. Antoine Verlaque cares about solving the case of course, but he does not entirely relinquish the finer things in life to do so, nor does he have any intention of being involved in some final, dramatic confrontation with the killer.

Less (but still a lot) of talking about wine, dining and cigars, bigger focus on the mystery and way less relationship drama. Dla wielu osób pewno byłoby nudne i bez akcji, ale na mnie działa w tych okropnych czasach jak balsam. Georges Moutte, the chair of the theology department at the University d’Aix, who was about to retire. With a focus on people rather than buildings, history is unravelled through anecdotes with lots of suggestions of what to see when you visit.Het begint allemaal heel “cosy” en Longworth neemt uitgebreid de tijd om de personages voor te stellen en de omgeving te omschrijven. When the director of the theology department at the university in Aix is found dead, Judge Verlaque is dumbfounded.

And no self-respecting French intellectual has ever read any Larkin, and probably has never heard of him. I have been lucky enough in my quarter century of life to do some traveling abroad, and one of the places I have been to is Aix in Provence. Further reading about Galle's art was necessary for me to appreciate the plot threads and well worth it. Verlaque is, mede door de invloed van Marine Bonnet, iets milder geworden, en hoewel hun relatie nog in een wat aftastende fase zit, zijn ze duidelijk wel gek op elkaar. This is why the Martin Walker trillers set in the Dordogne are so much more enjoyable you feel you are with the characters as they take you through the storyline.Fans of European sleuths with a taste for good food such as Martin Walker’s Bruno (Bruno, Chief of Police) will have fun.
