About this deal

Arrived in the morning to visit the gardens and enjoyed a lovely walk through the stunning grounds followed by a tour of the house where we spent time in the rooms so recognisable from Downton Abbey.

The three recipes I am sharing are: Cucumber Sandwiches and other Sandwiches, a classic Victoria Sandwich and a recipe for Scones. I am a big fan of healthy eating and while many of these treats are “sometimes” foods, but I also include healthy versions of some treats which you can enjoy anytime. Along with tea sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, preserves, and tea cakes, a well-rounded Afternoon Tea serves a smidgen of savory bites as well. You will be given an opportunity to pre-check the availability of tables for Afternoon Tea before proceeding with your purchase of admission tickets.

I’ve done a few recipes inspired by the show before but I’ve been wanting to do a nice afternoon tea spread for a while now. Yes, it is evident that this middle class lawyer is a diamond in the rough, and has a long way to go before he will become a true gentleman, but we gradually see him growing into the role of heir apparent. Poor old Alfred has been a bit of a “non entity” at Downton, although he has been caught up within a bizarre and rather drawn out love square downstairs, he hasn’t really been one to watch until this particular episode.

In official partnership with Downton Abbey and with over 150 stunning photographs featuring stills from across the series and right up to the latest film release, this collection of 70 delicious tea recipes is a lavish celebration of the elegant institution of afternoon tea. Cakes, tarts and puddings - From colourful Battenburg cakes and lemon tarts to warming spicy dark gingerbread or steamed toffee pudding, these irresistable bakes will have something to suit every taste. But the environment and atmosphere never beckoned us in and I remained going through the motions of someone who ought to be having a marvellous time because they were having tea at The Ritz. It was very nice, the decoration very sumptuous but I couldn’t help but feel they had crammed a few too many tables into the area, but the tea and different plates were of course wonderful.

My love affair with afternoon tea probably dates all the way back to my university days in London a long time ago (28 years actually).

No, the menus are separate set menus and items cannot be mixed from one menu to another at this time. You may wish to fill your tea pot with tap water, pour into a measuring cup to determine how many cups your pot will hold. I am sure she quickly realized that a lot of gossip could be shared if she invited other ladies to her quarters to share her cakes. The data they hold is extremely secure and they are regularly audited by the banks and banking authorities to ensure it remains so. If you go with loose tea, the general guideline is to allow for 1 tsp per person, 1 tsp for the pot, and allow 10 ounces per person.Originally made with unleavened oats and cooked on a griddle, scones today are generally sweetened and served with clotted cream and jam. Some other options are ham and cheese, chicken, or fish if you want to make something different The downstairs tea was a welcome afternoon break as servants took tea with a slice of bread or cake.
