About this deal

It’s so strange how this book has taken off and developed a cult following when she literally directs you to all of the experts for further reading. Her long epilogue of all the crazy things she did to lose weight, the abuse she put herself through, and her relief at finding IF as the thing that finally “worked,” was a real turn-off for me. The thing that is truly solid about Dealt, Don’t Deny , is that she uses scientific and medical resources to back up her claims.

Gin is co-host of The Intermittent Fasting Podcast with fellow author and intermittent faster, Melanie Avalon. On the other hand, satiety is a good sign, telling you that your body is happy with what you are doing. It sounded kooky and restrictive and impossible for a long while and then I Googled around and found Gin's podcast which led me to her books (Delay, Don't Deny and Feast without Fear). She can eat anything she likes in her window, (delaying not denying) and that would NOT work for me, but I like how she promotes flexibility to find success.Depending on your needs and preference, you can normally eat for four days and fast thrice a week or normally eat for six days and fast once a week. However this book is written (and read) from the experience of Gin who has and is living the lifestyle just made so much more sense.

I have read this book at least three times and each time I uncover something else that I need to apply to my life. Gin doesn't claim to have invented this way of eating, but she has certainly but it into a format that it easy and entertaining to read. I was hoping to avoid “clean” fasts because I love cream in my coffee but the OMAD lifestyle is so delightful I have been able to jump start the weight loss by avoiding all calories before around 3:30-4:00 each day. There are two ways to manage your fasting days; you can do a full clean fast, which involves only drinking approved beverages, or you can eat a limited amount, only taking in 500 calories on those down days. but having been bought up in the three meals a day plus snacks mentality I was always worried that eating as my body told me just MUST be wrong . Therefore you need to make several adjustments to your eating habits and learn to adapt to a healthier intermittent fasting plan, so you can maintain long-term health benefits.

By following the Delay, Don't Deny formula, I've learned how to listen better to the needs of my body and am thrilled to share that 16-weeks into this new lifestyle, I've already lost 20 pounds. There is an excellent part of the book, eschewing sweeteners like Splenda, explaining why they aren't useful for weight loss. I drink coffee, green tea and water for my fasting times and eat AND ENJOY with freedom in my eating window.Understand that uncontrollable or constant hunger is a sign that you have made some dietary choices that aren’t working for you. I hope to be able to share the gift of this book with many friends and family as the year progresses.

Anyway, the point of this post, is to tell you that I always fasted with heavy cream in my coffee, bullet proof coffee, and sometimes homemade bone broth, which unbeknownst to me made my fasts extremely difficult. Gin Stephens presents an easy-to-follow, and extremely flexible plan, that we can adjust to our own schedule. As she readily admits, the how’s and why’s of intermittent fasting are better available elsewhere (Dr. I have been low carb most of that time, which helped to a degree, but I came to learn that fasting was the fast track to endocrine healing. But as the months passed with very little progress in my weight loss journey, I kept thinking I might need to revisit DDD. Like me I am sure many readers will identify with Gin's personal story and experiences of dieting approaches over the years.
