About this deal

Surprisingly, unlike the XP-Pen Deco 03, the texture on the Deco 01 has not worn out whatsoever from my time drawing on it. Luckily, this is an older tablet and I’m sure XP-Pen won’t be using this pen with their newer tablets. I have created and attached all of the files that were requested in the "Collecting tablet diagnostics" page. Speaking of things that come with the tablet, you get a pretty long USB-C to USB-A cable, a USB-A to USB-C and a Micro USB adapter to plug into Android devices. In After Effects I can use it to give more natural movement to a graphic or allow for a pen stroke like effect for text or photo reveals.

The problem with this pen is that the sides are all slick and there is no bulge near the pen tip, so it can get slightly slippery if you sweat even a little bit from your fingertips. I ended up not using the film because I didn’t like the feel, but have not seen any cosmetic damage to the tablet or the LINE FRIENDS art on it because of this. For certain types of games and emulation it’s a no brainer and honestly the best way to interact with pointer focused games.I’ve worked with the program for a number of years and it just felt natural to me to leave my left land on the keyboard for shortcut keys and text editing then it did to map a limited set of functions to the buttons.

I personally don’t like this edge design because it digs into my wrists since my table is slightly higher than elbow height. There’s a single USB-C port, which you’ll use along with an in-box cable to plug into a USB port on your computer – it’s a very simple process, and you can easily plug it in and start drawing straight away (after your first set-up, of course). Whether it was creating assets for my day job, playing games, or just surfing the web I have been looking for ways to break up the repetitiveness of interfacing with it. In the work area, you can set how much of the tablet interacts with the screen or screens you are working with. The slow ruler line tests done with a no pen pressure pen were quite good at all angles, but you can see some wobble when tilting the pen completely over. It’s about as light as any other battery-free pen, but you can clearly tell that it’s made with budget in mind. As a side note, make sure to uninstall the drivers for the old tablet before you install the drivers for the new tablet, otherwise it may create conflicts and cause the tablet to not work properly.

No batteries are required to make the stylus work, but the tablet will only interact with a stylus from XP-PEN so if you lose it you won’t be able to interact with the tablet until you get a new one. XP-Pen is a professional and well-known provider of creative digital devices like graphic tablets, drawing pen displays and digital pen stylus.Once you’ve installed the driver and plugged in your tablet, the XP-Pen driver icon should appear in the system tray in the bottom right. What I mean is that the cursor does not react to your movements as fast as possible while hovering, and you can feel a clear delay there. We tested with a variety of functions including pencil sketching, graphic design, image manipulation and note-taking.

I’m leaning more towards the Huion due to its smaller size; I feel like it would be easier to carry around with my 13-inch MacBook Pro, and my workspace is quite limited too. The Deco 01 V2 lights up at the ends of the drawing area, and comes with adjustable brightness levels, so you can work and create in your preferred lighting environment. Plus, lots of the tools of the tablet depend on how much you put into it – it takes a bit of re-training your mind to make using the eight side buttons natural, but once you do it, it’ll save you a lot of time. I could get fishhooks like once every 50 strokes by going extremely fast, but at that point I honestly think it might just be my hand not keeping up. It’s also likely that the footprint of the device that you will be using it on is smaller than the graphics tablet itself.

In conclusion, the XP-Pen Deco 01 is a satisfactory tablet that is worth taking at least one look at if you’re on a budget. The IAF (Initial Activation Force) test uses a 300px linear pressure pen to show the thinnest lines possible, as well as demonstrate the IAF of the tablet.
