If you haven’t read this novella that bridges the gap between the first ACOTAR series and the next, you are honestly not missing out on much in regards to any development between these characters. The bargain is that Feyre will spend one week a month with the Night Court in exchange for Rhy healing her injuries in chapter 37 of A Court of Thorns and Roses. The timeline completely baffled me. What I thought was maybe a couple weeks worth of collecting her mates was actually months? How? They traveled by SUV's and limos, and only once had to use their wolf forms to get to the next kingdom and it wasn't for very long since they were close by after the accident. The challenges were made out to be only a day or two long and then the claiming ceremonies right after, so when she gets to the fire kingdom, and it's mentioned that she and Kaedyn have been on this journey together for five months, it seemed really wonky. I read the story in a short three days and I liked it but I think the fast reading was why I got super confused with the time line. Whilst I thought a couple of weeks had passed, it says the story played out for almost six month while everything happened. So, there happened some confusion.In chapter 22 Feyre visits The Bone Carver to ask him to join them in the fight. When she gets there, she realizes that the form he is choosing to appear as is the child of her and Rhysand. Rhysand is the High Lord of the Night Court and is first introduced in the ACOTAR series during A Court of Thorns and Roses. Rhys is introduced as a villainous character but turns out to be SO much more in the following books. Feyre is an actual lady boss in the court, both on the battlefield and off. She kills a bunch of Hybrun’s army and gets revenge on her ex-love!

During the time she spends with Rhys in the Night Court, she slowly begins to heal which eventually leads to her leaving Tamlin and joining the Night Court. Feyre is not only High Fae now but has also been gifted power from each of the courts. This book sets up some minor details for A Court of Silver Flames, so it is worth the read in that regard. But let’s talk about what goes down between Rhys and Feyre! It felt like we were on a rollercoaster: something terrible happened, but before the "omg, this is so bad" event was even done, it was over. With her OP power, Bella instantly had the upper hand, and it was on to the next. Heather does redeem herself by the end of the story by showing remorse after her prejudice almost ruins her own brother’s mating (see push/pull) and offering Adley a genuine apology for her behavior. She even gifts her brother and his mate with family heirloom rings to get married with, something she considered Adley might want since it’s a human tradition. ; OM - no Interestingly, this actually appears to improve mating success, as ganglia in the male’s abdomen allow him to continue copulating even after his head has been eaten. Studies have shown that this actually allows more of the female’s eggs to be fertilized.Bella goes on this quest to find a mate from each of the 4 elements. Along the way, she discovers the truth about the past and what her powers can really do as she adds more mates. lt rushed and i didn't feel that we got to actual see the FMC with each mate and we didn't get to see them develop their relationship as they had to rush off to find the next mate and the next mate and the next one. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be a time-period type piece, some of the dialogue felt like they were part of an older era (which was also extremely repetitive and felt like words were strung together strictly for a higher word count. We didn't need Hollis' skin tone to be explained three times within two paragraphs.), but then there were things like Vampire Diaries and modern technologies mentioned and it just threw me off. Still, the book is a good read when one takes the time to read it carefully and not try to read as fast as possible because there's so much stuff happening left and right to Bella and her men that you can't really stop reading :D Luke’s age is never revealed, but since he and Heather aren’t mentioned to be twins, I assume he’s older than her, though by how much is unknown.
