About this deal

The closer one gets to Christmas, the more the candles get lit, and the brighter it shines. Advent moves us through the prophecies about Christ, to the hope he provides, to the joy he brings, and the love he gives. As we move through each week, the wreath glows brightly with significance. Let's take a look at the different advent candle colors and their beautiful meaning and symbolism. The First Sunday of Advent’s Purple Candle Signifies Hope The calendar itself is filled with 45 items from 35 iconic brands from the Harvey Nics hall of fame, including 25 full-sized products. Some brands shoppers can find includes Charlotte Tilbury, Fenty Beauty and Colour Wow. Featuring 25 doors of beauty magic, the calendar will provide you with the ultimate pamper for every occasion. Brands found inside include Rituals, Medik8, ICONIC London and Floral Street. For the Eastern Orthodox Church, Advent has been a time of fasting and penitence, similar to Lent. So, while some church traditions focus on penitence during Advent, which is still appropriate, the spirit of that expectation from the Old Testament is better captured with a joyous sense of expectancy. Rather than a time of mourning and fasting, Advent is celebrated as a time of joy and happiness as we await the coming of the King. Advent Colors

On the second Sunday of Advent, we light the Hope candle and then we light the Preparation candle. First, hope blooms as we realize the prophecies about the Messiah are true. Then we begin to prepare our hearts to receive the Lord Jesus. If you want to try something a little different to a traditional advent calendar then we’ve got a few ideas for you that are perfect for making memories together during the festive period. The nativity, the Incarnation, cannot be separated from the crucifixion. The purpose of Jesus’ coming into the world, of the “Word made flesh” and dwelling among us, is to reveal God and His grace to the world through Jesus’ life and teaching, but also through his suffering, death, and resurrection. To reflect this emphasis, originally Advent was a time of penitence and fasting, much as the Season of Lent and so shared the color of Lent. Gaudette Sunday Holy God, your love for us is amazing. You sent your son who left his glory and throne to confine himself to the dependent state of a newborn, toddler, and child. It is a mystery for which we are so grateful and one in which we hold our arms wide open to receive.Advent is a word with Latin roots and means “coming.” Christians use this period of time before Christmas to prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ birth. It’s also a time of repentance and meditation while anticipating Jesus’ second coming. Inside, shoppers will find a whopping 27 products starring some of the most highly acclaimed and luxurious brands in LookFantastic’s beauty collection, such as Nars, MAC and Elemis, as well as editor's favourites such as Disciple, Coco & Eve and GRANDE Cosmetics. In recent times, however, Advent has undergone a shift in emphasis, reflected in a change of colors used in many churches. Many Protestant churches now use blue to distinguish the Season of Advent from Lent. Royal Blue is sometimes used as a symbol of royalty. Advent means “coming” in Latin. In Greek, it is translated from parousia, commonly used in reference to the Second Coming of the Messiah. It is a season of preparation, to prepare the way of the Lord.

In the four weeks of Advent the third Sunday came to be a time of rejoicing that the fasting was almost over. Gaudette Sunday (“Rejoice,” from an ancient antiphon based on Philippians 4:4) has an especially joyous emphasis, so often rose (pink) as a symbol of joy is seen to replace the purple. The shift for this Sunday reflects this lessening emphasis on penitence as attention turned more to celebration of the season. Blue for Advent Holy God, we begin this week of advent with a heart awakening to hope. You are our signpost lighting our way forward. Darkness may abound, but you reveal light. Night may linger, but hope comes in the morning because of you. May we turn our hearts turn toward you. In Jesus’ name, Amen. A Prayer for Preparation A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken” ( Isaiah 40:3-5). Advent is the beginning of the Church Year for most churches in Western tradition. It begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day, which is the Sunday nearest November 30 th, and ends on Christmas Eve, December 24 th. The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. Biblical Themes in Advent We remember that you are with us. We forgive what needs forgiving, we confess what needs confessing, and we welcome you. In Jesus’ name, Amen. A Prayer for Joy

A Prayer for Preparation

The traditions of Advent include the color of dark “royal” purple or Sarum blue (from the Medieval Sarum rite). Both symbolize preparation, penitence and royalty to welcome the new King. The purple of Advent is also the color of suffering used during Lent and Holy Week. This points to an important connection between Jesus’ birth and death. We’ll be having chocolate calendars too but if you are looking for a sweet free one then this is a great sugar-free countdown alternative. Some churches use Bright Blue to symbolize the night sky, the anticipation of the impending announcement of the King’s coming, or to symbolize the waters of Genesis 1, the beginning of a new creation. Some churches, including some Catholic churches, use blue violet ( Sarum blue) to preserve the traditional use of purple while providing a visual distinction between the purple or red violet of Lent. What About Red and Green? During the Advent season, we remember, and we look forward. In these four weeks, we meditate on Jesus’ sacrifice that brings us to repentance and we anticipate his return. In the busyness of the Christmas season, celebrating Advent provides us a time to focus our hearts on Jesus. The third Sunday of Advent brings us to Joy. The color pink represents rejoicing. We light the previous two purple candles and then light this week’s pink one. Rejoicing is our response to the Good News — joy that our Messiah has come. The Christ candle is the fifth Advent candle, placed in the center of the wreath as a white candle. Red and Green are more secular colors of Christmas. They derive from older European practices of using evergreens and holly to symbolize ongoing life and hope that Christ’s birth brings into a cold world. Although red and green are often used as part of the church decorations, they are never used as liturgical colors during Advent since those colors have other uses in other parts of the church year. This floral, feminine fragrance has long been a firm fan-favourite among beauty fans thanks to its "long-lasting" scent and beautiful glass bottle that will look elegant on your vanity table.
