About this deal

If you’re driving a caravan, you may notice there are routes that aren’t suitable for larger vehicles because of their size and weight. When you use a caravan sat nav, the proportions of your camper or caravan are taken into account to create a custom route that’s safe for your vehicle. Best caravan sat nav

We’re really pleased overall with GARMIN Camper 780 MT-S EU 6.95″ Sat Nav, enough to score it 8.3/10. The Camper 780 is the new motorhome and caravan sat nav from the well known american brand Garmin. It is specifically designed for caravan and motorhome drivers and includes vehicle weight and size management as well as specific Points of interest for trips with caravans and motorhomes. This device offers a 6.95 inch multi-touch screen. The new Garmin range includes 3 models : The Camper 780 which we are reviewing here, the Camper 785 which offers a slightly bigger screen and a built in dash camera, and the Camper 890 which has a bigger 8 inch screen. Most of the other features are common on all models. The hands free phone feature which enables the user to make phone calls, still offers pretty good quality with the built-in speaker on this model. The built-in microphone however does not offer the same level of quality you expect with a dedicated device such as factory mounted units. Efficiency of the Live services Perfect for smaller vans, the Garmin Campervan GPS is a reliable device that we think will make touring even more enjoyable. Coming with a 6.95″ edge-to-edge display, we really think this is a device that makes exploring easy. Above this there’s the DriveSmart line, which feature more modern looks and larger, high-resolution screens. These add live traffic alerts, useful 3D and split-screen views, and a bunch of smartphone-friendly features. We’re not going to cover the models aimed at vans and heavy goods vehicles, but Garmin also produces some satnavs aimed directly at caravan and campervan drivers, with special features designed to help you navigate in a larger vehicle and make the most of your time when you’re travelling around.

Read All our Reviews:

There are comprehensive maps of Europe including the restrictions that the vehicle might encounter. Moreover, it indicates the weight limits, narrow roads, bridge heights, sharp curves, steep hills, tree overhang, and other minor details as well that allows it to suggest personalized itineraries which consider the explicit characteristics of the vehicle. Garmin’s entry-level satnav gives you sensible routes, clear directions and a 3D view to help you navigate junctions. Instructions are delivered clearly and promptly, with helpful references to road names and landmarks. Like the more expensive DriveSmart models, the Drive 52 also highlights points of interest, provided by TripAdvisor and FourSquare, and if you connect it to your smartphone through Garmin’s Smartphone Link app it will deliver live traffic alerts, speed camera warnings and weather forecasts too.

8 ways to be a better motorhome driver

The user interface can be quite complex for those who are not familiar with navigating through GPS systems. The Garmin Camper 780 is the perfect GPS sat-nav for those seeking an advanced navigation system to plan their next road trip. With features such as custom routing, voice activated navigation and helpful route warnings, it’s ideal for motorhome adventurers who want to travel in style and confidence. Get your Garmin Camper 780 today! Garmin Camper 780 has a bright, 6.95-inch touchscreen. Also simply enter the size and weight of your camper or caravan and you will only be routed along appropriate roads for your particular vehicles dimensions and weight (you can also save your favourite profiles for use across multiple vehicles). Traffic via Smartphone App is also included to warn you of traffic congestion in the road ahead and your Garmin Camper 780 can also provide you with another alternative route to avoid waiting in a traffic jam. Some brands are synonymous with quality. If quality is your focus, avoid budget brands that don’t specialise in good products. The more deluxe ranges offered by household brands are usually a reliable place to put your money, but results can vary from model to model.

Then final step after that is to look at the price of both of those criteria combined, i.e only looking at Garmin branded products in the Sat Nav category, which we found 15 products. Only includes UK and European mapping, may not be suitable for those traveling outside of these areas. The next process we put in place was to see how cheap you can get products in the Sat Nav category and also just to see how expensive they can get too. For example, Garmin Camper 780, which ranks as the best advanced camper sat nav, offers custom routing based on your vehicle’s size and weight specifications. Another convenient feature is voice-activated controls, so you can keep both hands on the wheel while navigating. Voice commands suffer from the same issues as the DriveSmart 66, and it’s particularly frustrating that you can’t choose from a range of search options without glancing at the screen. However, the spoken and visual guidance is excellent, making good use of street names and landmarks. On rural journeys there are still some odd omissions, not to mention situations where a bear right becomes a right turn or you’re directed down a minor lane, but that’s an issue across most satnavs and satnav apps. And you still get a full range of smart features, including notifications and hands-free calling. As an all-round satnav, this one’s hard to beat.
